It was not clear whether any staff were hurt and the fire brigade said the fire was contained to a single room. The building's alarms were initially set off and some people nearby reported they smelt smoke. Loading Central West Public Health Director of Planning David Brauer said they are now receiving vital reports. "We've got phone coverage, and again, this is still an emergency. We've got the phones working. So we're still getting around the region and getting some reports through, but we can't get to some of those," he said. "It's still very early, so we have time to get things back on track." The WA Department of Health later confirmed that the "limited health data systems" that had been held there had been destroyed. "This includes the ANZAC Statewide Primary Care System and the second-generation WA Health Record," the department said in a statement. "It is too early to determine if this has an impact on data sharing." The department said there would be an initial assessment next week. Penola has been without a working health information system for almost a week.
